3000 PAINE PLUS GTX RR - CLIMBINGREPORT.COM
You may or may not be familiar with Zamberlan boots. The Zamberlan family has been making boots in Italy since 1929. Their focus is on comfortable, durable, and technically superb hiking and mountaineering boots. Until now only their hiking boots have been available in the U.S. This is about to change. Zamberlan has a whole lineup of mountaineering boots that you’ll begin to see showing up in your favorite retail locations this year. We decided to test one of the more versatile models, the Paine.

OVERLAND JOURNAL EDITOR'S CHOICE & VALUE AWARDS
Editor's Note: I questioned Mr. Noel's decision to give the Zamberlan, the most costly boot in this review, our Value Award. He held his ground, saying, "They are that good, you can resole them for decades." The air was further cleared when our COO Ray Hyland said, "Oh, yes, before I went to work a summer job in Alaska, my father took me to the best shoe store in Vancouver and said 'Fit my son with the best boots money can buy.' That was 25 years ago and I still have them...had them re-soled three times." Case closed!

CLIMBING MAGAZINE 2050 FITZ ROY GTX RR
Light and nimble mountaineering boots --> ZAMBERLAN FITZ ROY "Just the right balance of stiffness and agility," said one tester after three days of summer mountaineering above Chamonix, France. Credit the dual-density PU midsole with a full polypropylene shank for ultra-stable frontpointing and a flexible nylon notch for unencumbered ankle movement. "On low-angled glacial terrain, I could feel the pronounced rocker propeller my strides forward, even with crampons on," said our tester, who also praised the boot for a precise feel on mixed terrain. A ceramic Cordura fabric in the upper prevents punctures or tears from repeated crampon nicks. A matrix of tiny ceramic beads forms a breathable armor that showed no visible weakness even after purposeful attempts to puncture it. Expect to use these 1 lb, 11 oz boots for several years. Compatible with semi-automatic crampons.
